MIT researchers have developed BIOSENTER, a soft robotic device inspired by the movement of snakes to navigate the small intestine.
Its snake-scale-inspired surface provides traction along slippery intestinal walls, allowing the robot to capture images, deliver medication, collect biopsies, and remove small polyps. Successfully tested over approximately two meters of intestine in animal studies, the technology could make gastrointestinal diagnosis and treatment easier in the future.
