British technology company Lumai is bringing its light-powered AI computing technology into a real-world data center environment.
Its Lumai Iris servers, set to be deployed by the UK's ARIA research agency, use three-dimensional optical computing to potentially reduce data center energy consumption by up to 90% and deliver 50 times faster processing. These performance claims will be tested independently as researchers explore alternatives to conventional silicon-based AI infrastructure.
