Georgia Tech researchers have found that conversations with AI assistants running locally on Android phones can leave recoverable traces even after they're deleted.
Their tool, ORISA, scans a phone's working memory for fragments of deleted chats and can rebuild that information into a working AI session. Tested across 10 Android apps and three AI models, it recovered information still held in memory in all 60 test configurations, and the work was presented at the 2026 IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy.
