OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told the United Nations Security Council that advanced AI should remain under human control and be governed by shared international safety standards.
He highlighted two major risks losing control of increasingly autonomous systems and concentrating too much power in a small number of companies or countries while calling for common standards on capability testing, safeguards, incident reporting and human oversight. Altman also argued that AI companies should not replace democratic decision-making and that governments and societies must help shape how the technology develops.
