MIT researchers have developed SANDO, a navigation system that enables drones to fly safely through unfamiliar environments with moving obstacles.
The system predicts possible obstacle movements, generates mathematically verified collision-free flight paths, and continuously adjusts routes as conditions change. Successfully avoiding every moving obstacle in 12 real-world drone test flights, the technology could support search-and-rescue and disaster-response missions.
