OpenSSL has added a hybrid ML-KEM architecture to OpenSSL 3.5 to protect internet traffic against future quantum attacks.
The system combines traditional X25519 with quantum-resistant ML-KEM during TLS 1.3 key exchange, requiring an attacker to defeat both methods. OpenSSL says the stronger protection increases handshake time from roughly 13 milliseconds to 15.5 milliseconds.
