The European Space Agency reported that normal water conditions are increasingly becoming the exception worldwide, based on a new global assessment combining satellite and ground observations.
In 2025, only about 36% of assessed catchment areas recorded normal river discharge, below the 1991–2020 average of 46%. ESA’s lake and snow-cover records also revealed significant regional anomalies across Africa, Canada and Europe.
