AI chat platform Character.AI has filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy to pursue a court-supervised sale of the company.

It's putting all or substantially all of its assets up for sale, while the platform stays online for now with subscriptions and billing unchanged. The sale is expected to close by late November or early December, and the company says the service will be wound down if no bid emerges that keeps it running.
