Google is preparing to send a prototype satellite carrying TPU chips into low Earth orbit as part of Project Suncatcher, testing whether AI hardware can reliably operate in space.
The mission will evaluate launch vibrations, radiation exposure, extreme temperatures and a new cooling system designed for vacuum conditions. Google’s longer-term vision is to create scalable AI computing infrastructure in space using solar-powered satellite clusters connected by high-speed laser links.
