MIT researchers have developed an origami-inspired construction technique for creating lightweight yet highly rigid structures.
Using modular folded metal components, the system delivers 3.5 times greater stiffness than certain existing origami-based methods while requiring roughly one-third less material. Demonstrated through a 7-meter sculpture at the Boston Public Library, the approach could support future applications in emergency shelters, architecture, and aerospace.
