Google and Cathay Pacific are testing an AI-powered contrail avoidance system on flights across the Asia-Pacific region.
The technology combines satellite imagery, weather intelligence and AI forecasts to identify areas where persistent contrails are likely to form, allowing pilots to make small altitude adjustments. Early trials covering more than 80 flights were estimated to reduce the warming impact of contrails by about 40%.
