Anthropic has opened a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard (MHS), a shared specification that lets AI agents operate physical equipment safely.

It enables agents to coordinate instruments such as microscopes, liquid handlers and robotic arms through a common interface. MHS can reduce hardware integration from weeks to hours or minutes while supporting autonomous, round-the-clock experiments.
