Harvard researchers developed smart knitted fabrics that can snap between multiple stable shapes using standard industrial knitting techniques.
By tuning the textile’s geometry and yarn structure, the material can lock into different 3D configurations, while conductive yarns allow it to function as a soft switch or sensor. The team demonstrated applications including wearable step counters and reconfigurable electronic surfaces.
