Google is bringing reusable custom instructions called “Skills” to Gemini and Workspace, with the system eventually replacing Gems.
Skills can be stacked inside the same conversation, letting users standardize recurring tasks such as brand writing, lesson planning, or email drafting. The Workspace rollout begins on October 5, 2026, followed by the Gemini app on October 13, while Gems will be phased out during 2027.
