NASA has awarded Modulate Space Corporation a roughly $38 million contract to develop a 5G communications system with built-in Wi-Fi 6 for the lunar surface.
The network is intended to provide a scalable, standards-based communications layer for future Moon Base operations. Lab development runs through early 2028, followed by a lunar surface 5G and Wi-Fi flight demonstration scheduled through the end of 2028.
